ICF is an on-site, insulated concrete system of building that can be quickly constructed and offers better performance levels than the hitherto conventional methods employed. ICF buildings account for almost 8% of the low-rise housing market in North America today.
ICF are hollow light-weight block components that interlock together to make up a form which is filled with concrete. The blocks comprise insulation material, typically polystyrene, that are tied together with plastic or steel ties. An arrangement of forms constituting a complete wall is built to a height of 3 meters and then concrete is filled, normally with a pump. When the concrete is set it becomes an extremely strong, solid concrete frame construction. The formwork stays in place becoming an integral form of insulation.
Contractors and homeowners today are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious to conform to emerging green building trends. Building regulations too are veering toward increased use of eco-friendly products and setting more stringent energy efficiency standards. The use of ICF construction contributes appreciably in meeting or exceeding the requirements of these new standards. Visiting Energy Miser’s website www.energymiserbuildingproducts.com gives greater details of the consolidated advantages of ICF technology.
